Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (simplified Chinese: 西安咸阳国际机场; traditional Chinese: 西安咸陽國際機場; pinyin: Xī'ān Xiányáng Guójì Jīchǎng) (IATA: XIY, ICAO: ZLXY) assists Xi'an, Shaanxi, People's Republic of China. Covering five foursquare klicks, it is the biggest airport in China's northwest. Due to the Chinese western enlargement, visitant and shipment flowing are quickly increasing. The airport was the hub for China Northwest Airlines until the corporation was united into China Eastern Airlines in 2002. Currently, the airport links to 79 other towns domestically and internationally.
In 2008, the airport dealt 11,921,919 riders, which made it the busiest airport in northwest China and the nineth busiest across the nation. Xi'an Xianyang International Airport was also the 15th busiest airport in terms of freight traffic and the nineth busiest airport by traffic motilities.
History
Before Xi'an Xianyang International Airport was made, Xi'an was assisted by Xi'an Xiguan Airport (IATA: SIA, ICAO: ZLSN). In 1984, the State Council of the People's Republic of China and Central Military Commission advised to construct a big civil-use airport on the location of Xianyang's field. Phase one of the airport set about building on August 1987, and was complete and opened in September 1, 1991. Xi'an Xiguan Airport closed at the same clip. Phase two get down in August 2000, and was complete on September 16, 2003. Also, in 2007, the airport signed an understanding to do craft with Pittsburgh International Airport in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, making the "Air silk route."
Another RMB7.592 billion put labor is scheduled to be constituted by 2020. It will construct a 3rd 170,000-square-meter depot construction; a 2nd 3,800-meter landing track; and related to back up installations. After enlargement, the airport will attain 26 million riders each year, and will get the 4th Chinese airport with independent parallel functioning of instrument landing track.
