Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport (Polish: Port Lotniczy im. Fryderyka Chopina) (IATA: WAW, ICAO: EPWA) is an international airport turn up in the Okęcie land of Warsaw, Poland. Formerly Okęcie International Airport, it is named after the famous Polish composer and former Warsaw inhabitant, Fryderyk Chopin. It is Poland's busiest airport, deal merely under 50% of the commonwealth's air rider traffic.

The former name, lotnisko Okęcie (Okęcie airport), stays in general use, including air traffic and airport mentions.

Warsaw Airport deals about 100 scheduled voyages daily and an of all time come up figure of charters. London, Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam are the busiest international connexions, while Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk are the most popular domestic 1.

History

In 1924, when urban development around Warsaw's airport at Mokotów Fields (Pole Mokotowskie) set about bearing upon air traffic, the Ministry of Railways bought district near the small town of Okęcie to build a new airport. In 1933, The Central Airport (Okęcie) took over the care of all traffic from the Pole Mokotowskie. During World War II, Okęcie was frequently used as a field between the German Army and Polish opposition and was practically destruct. After freeing, LOT Polish Airlines restarted functioning at Okęcie, using pre-war base. In 1956, upkeep of Okęcie was reassigned from LOT Polish Airlines to province disposal. In 1969 a new international depot was made to deal 1 million riders each year, few yr afterwards a separate, impermanent reaching hallway was made. Meanwhile, domestic voyages elongated to function from the installations built on the location of the pre-war depot. In 1992, a new depot (T1), with capacity for 3.5 million riders per yr, was made to replace the senesce complex from the communistic epoch. In March 2001, Warsaw Airport was renamed in honor of the Polish piano player Frédéric Chopin (though this name is about ne'er used in pattern, and most users know the location just as Okęcie). In 2005, the old reaching hallway from 70s was renovated and reopened, and under the name "Etiuda" got a impermanent depot for the low-cost traffic. Since 2007 the T2, a new constructed depot adjacent to T1, has been bit by bit taking over the major division of the traffic. In March 2009 the Etiuda depot was closed and low-cost bearers travel to T1.

Terminal two is a new depot which went full operational on March 12, 2008, two yr after the originally be after opening date. The reaches area  was in functioning from mid-2007 but jobs with safety enfranchisement and dissensions between the airport and the building company detained full functioning. The new depot is substantially bigger than the older Terminal one and has taken over going for all Star Alliance and OneWorld air hose and a few other bearers.

The new Southern Pier of the T1+T2 complex is now under building.

Modlin is also to service charter bearers and in some vague hereafter, load, but due to chronic hold up in get down involved building, is not anticipated to get operational until 2011 at the earliest.
