Værøy Heliport (IATA: VRY, ICAO: ENVR) (Norwegian: Værøy lufthavn) is a heliport on the island of Værøy in Nordland county in Norway. The airport had 8,372 riders in 2005.

Scheduled eggbeater services are supplied by Lufttransport on public service duty contracts with the Norwegian Government to Bodø.

History

Scheduled eggbeater voyages from Bodø to Værøy set about in 1972. A new airport with 800 meters long landing track opened on the northward side of the island in 1986. The airport was assisted by Widerøe, with voyages to Bodø, Røst and Leknes.

On April 12, 1990 a Twin Otter from Widerøe bond for Bodø crashed into the sea about one min after take-off from Værøy, assassination all five on board. The Accident Investigation Board constitute that the make of the crash had been strong and unpredictable air current blows during take-off, which had surpassed the aeroplane's boundaries and made a break-up in the aeroplane's tail rudder, so the aeroplane got uncontrollable.

It had been known that there were unsafe and unpredictable current of air statuses at the airport because of its propinquity to the steep mountains on the island, and there had been specific air current limitations in location for the airport before the accident happed. Pilots oftentimes suspected the air current informations they were given because the air current would change within the airport area , and they desired to keep off districting on the airport when the current of air statuses were hard.

Værøy Airport was closed in 1992, and a new, lasting heliport was opened in 1997. There are scheduled eggbeater voyages between Værøy and Bodø.
