It is assisted by LADE and Aerolíneas Argentinas, and in May 2009 are suposed to set about direct international voyages to Montevideo, the capital town of Uruguay.
This airport replaced an airport mentioned as a pivotal location during the Trelew Massacre. On August 15, 1972, 110 captives escaped from the Rawson poky and attempted to pirate a Austral Líneas Aéreas BAC 1-11 en path to Comodoro Rivadavia, in say to get away to Chile and then to Cuba.
