Tours Loire Valley Airport or Tours Val de Loire Airport (French: Aéroport Tours Val de Loire) (IATA: TUF, ICAO: LFOT) is an airport in the French département of Indre-et-Loire, six kilometre north-northeast of the town of Tours in the Loire Valley (French: Val de Loire). It is turn up part on the district of the communes of Tours and Parçay-Meslay.
The airport dates dorsum to the 1930s, and was 1st used as a army base. It was used during the Second World War - Winston Churchill set down here the solar day before the truce, before it was destruct by German bombardments then by British bombardments. It was used by NATO and the US Air Force before going a flying school in the 1950s. It was only open to civilian aircraft from the early 1960s. During the finish of the 1970s the airport savoured a golden period due to the local airline Touraine Air Transport (TAT), but that air hose endured a slow slouch, from which the airport ne'er in fact regained until the late 1990s, after subventions by the Conseil Général.
Today, the airport is open to both subject and international bearers, private airplanes and both IFR and VFR. Due to its limited security measure out, the airport is not open to bigger bearers.
The airport has daily Boeing 737 voyages to London Stansted with Ryanair, and non-regular voyages to Lyon and Bastia. The airport is place to around 40 Alpha Jets belonging to the air pressure , as good as a duo of Mirage scrapper airplanes as division of the Vigipirate defense programme.
