Sumburgh Airport (IATA: LSI, ICAO: EGPB) is the independent airport assisting Shetland in Scotland. It is turn up on the southern tip of the mainland, 17 naut mi (31 kilometre) southward of Lerwick. The airport is owned by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) and assisted by Loganair and Highland Airways.
The airport is unusual in that it has a 550 m (1,804 foot) eggbeater landing track as opposed to usual helipad.
On one April 1995, ownership of the Company reassigned from the UK Civil Aviation Authority to the Secretary of State for Scotland and afterwards to the Scottish Ministers.
HIAL has subsidies from the Scottish Ministers in accord with Section 34 of the Civil Aviation Act 1982 and is patronized by the Transport Directorate which is 1 of the Finance and Sustainable Growth Directorates of the Scottish Government. Annual Reports and Accounts are subjected to the Scottish Ministers.
The airport is assisted by Loganair, (under franchise to FlyBe), Highland Airways, and Atlantic Airways.
