Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (IATA: SAB, ICAO: TNCS) is the only airport on the Caribbean island of Saba, in the Netherlands Antilles. It is good known amongst see flyers for the manner in which planes moldiness draw close or depart from the airport.
Information
Some air power experts are of the general view that the airport is 1 of the most unsafe in the world, even though no major disasters have take place at the installation. The airport's sole landing track is marked with an X at each finish, to point to commercial airplane pilots that the airport is closed for commercial air power.
The danger spring up from the airport's physical place. It is flanked on 1 side by high hills, and on the other side and at both finishes of the landing track by drop-off dropping into the sea. This makes the possibility that an plane influence overshoot the landing track during districting or takeoff and wind up in the sea or on the drops.
Although the airport is marked as a non-commercial installation, air hose are able to bring down there by obtaining discharges from the Netherlands Antilles' Civil Aviation Authority.
Yrausquin Airport is able to be seen from some locations in Saint Martin.
Facilities
Large jet plane are unable to bring down at the airport, because the landing track is excessively short (approx. 1,300 foot or 396 m. However, little planes (DHC-6, BN-2 and eggbeaters) are common sights there. There is a little incline and depot on the southward side of the landing track. The incline also has a denominated helipad. The depot construction houses business office for Winair, in-migration and security, a fire section with 1 fire engine and a tower. The tower is an advisory service only and does not render air traffic command. Aviation fuel is not available on the island of Saba.
