Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, (IATA: NBO, ICAO: HKJK) once named Embakasi Airport and Nairobi International Airport, is Kenya's biggest air power installation, and the busiest airport in Central Africa. It is the sixth busiest airport in Africa. The airport is named after the 1st Kenyan chancellor and president Jomo Kenyatta.

Kenyatta airport is turn up in Embakasi, a suburban area to the south east of Nairobi. The airport is located 15km from Nairobi's Central Business District, and at the border of the town's build up area . The Mombasa Highway runs adjacent to the airport, and is the independent road of access between Nairobi and the airport.

The airport is the independent hub of Kenya Airways and Five Forty Aviation. Jomo Kenyatta airport is assisted by Runway 06/24. Runway 06 is ILS-equipped, and is used for take-offs and landings. The airport is assisted by 1 depot construction build in the 1970s. The former "Embakasi" depot, currently used for freight and for a Kenya Air Force grooming installation, was build before the 1960s.

History

Nairobi Embakasi Airport was opened in May 1958, by the last Governor of Kenya, Evelyn Baring. The airport was due to be opened by Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, nevertheless, she was hold up in Australia and is able to not do the observance.
