Midland-Odessa Regional Airport (MAF) opened its new rider depot in the early 1960s. At the clip, MAF was assisted by Continental and Trans-Texas, both of whom functioned popular point-to-point services connecting West Texas cities.

The depot was placed by its scolloped roofline, which let a column-free inside. All services - ticketing, baggage demand and grants, were turn up inside the construction, and a individual departure lounge opened up onto the apron. Continental and Trans-Texas both presented DC9 jet plane voyages in the late 1960s.

This layout assisted the airport good until the late 1970s 'oil din' hit Midland-Odessa. Rapid economic development in the 2 towns guided to a dramatic increase in voyages, by both the incumbent air hose and new-entrant bearers like Southwest Airlines. After air hose deregulating in 1978, American and Delta set about voyages, come after by start-up America West a few yr after.

To cope with the go up claim, a new entrance area  was build alongside the apron. Included in the programme were 4 second-level entrances fit out with jetbridges, grant infinite, and moving staircase wells connecting the addition to the being depot. The southward finish of the independent depot was continued to include more ticketing infinite, and the original depot was modernised (the scolloped roofline was take).

By the 1990s, several of the new-entrant bearers had get out and most of the staying air hose had downgraded to regional jet plane. Only Southwest, the airport's biggest bearer, functioned mainline jet plane voyages.

The depot construction, nevertheless, had set about to look tired, and airport functionaries start out programming for a more modern replacing. Construction set about on the installation (which shall be turn up in the diamond car parking) in 1996. The 1st one-half of the new depot was opened in early 1999, at which point the 1966 depot was closed and pulverised. The 2nd one-half of the new depot was complete in late 1999.

Until the September eleventh assails, everybody was let access to the 2nd floor; since then, nevertheless, only riders are let past the security checkpoints.

In 2008, Southwest Airlines dropped all direct voyage to El Paso, due to fall rider number to that town. An afternoon voyage to Austin has also been dropped even though talks are underway to hold that voyage.
