McCook Regional Airport (IATA: MCK, ICAO: KMCK), once known as McCook Municipal Airport, is a public airport turn up 2 land mile (three kilometre) east of the central downtown (CBD) of McCook, a town in Red Willow County, Nebraska, USA. The airport covers 667 acres (270 ha) and has 3 landing track. It is assisted by 1 commercial air hose, with service subsidised by the Essential Air Service programme.
Air Midwest , functioning as U.S. Airways Express, set about service on October 29, 2006, with 2 daily voyages to Grand Island and elongating service to Omaha Eppley Airfield (one halt) and Kansas City International Airport (two halts).
History
During World War II an even bigger grooming field was made some 8 land mile northward of McCook Regional, for the intention of preparation of heavy bomber aircrew. Known, somewhat bewilderingly, as McCook Army Airfield, the ground closed in 1945 and was reassigned to province command and renamed McCook State Airfield. It closed for good in 1969 and since has mostly turn back to farming area. However the former ground's 5 massive World War II-era depots are still clearly seeable from the air.
