History

Completed in 1972, then at a cost of around SEK130 million, about twice as much as ab initio calculate, Sturup Airport replaced the current and aging Bulltofta Airport, which had assisted the district since 1923. Plans to construct a new airport were outlined in the early 1960s. Expansion was impossible, due to Bulltofta's close propinquity to the currently dinning town and nearby communities sound off approximately sound pollution from the new presented jet plane. Construction set about in 1970 and 2 yr after, December 3rd, 1972, the airport was kick off. At the same clip Bulltofta Airport closed. However, Malmö ATC (Air Traffic Control) stay at the old Bulltofta location until 1983 when it also go to Malmö Airport.

Around yr 2005-2008 some low-cost air hose desired to draw both Danish and Swedish riders from Sturup in competition with the Copenhagen airport. During fall 2007 the Irish low-cost bearer Ryanair closed all its paths from Malmö Airport. During 2008 Danish Sterling Airlines had some lines from Malmö Airport to London (LGW), Alicante, Barcelona, Nice and Florence. Sterling Airlines stood for approximately 6-7% of the aggregative figure of riders at Sturup.
