Standiford Field was made by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1941 on a parcel of district southward of Louisville that was constitute not to have inundated during the Ohio River deluge of 1937. The field rested under Army command until 1947, when it was turned over to the Louisville Air Board for commercial functioning.

Before Standiford Field got the independent conduit for rider air traffic in Louisville, Bowman Field was Louisville's briny airport.
