Key West International Airport (IATA: EYW, ICAO: KEYW, FAA LID: EYW) is a county-owned public airport turn up 2 land mile (three kilometre) east of the central downtown of Key West, in Monroe County, Florida, United States.

The IATA codification sets about from the 2nd missive of the name (Key West) because initial "K" is a reserved block; the ICAO codification reconstructs the K in the designation as "K" is the 1st place ICAO codification used for airports turn up in the Continental United States. Flights going away from EYW frequently have nonindulgent weight or luggage limitations due to the short length of the landing track.

History

Key West's air power history get down with a 1913 voyage to Cuba by Augustin Parla. In 1928, Pan American Airlines started scheduled voyages from Key West. Meacham Field was the primarly landing track for Key West. It was ab initio pressed into Army use after the 1941 Pearl Harbor bombing, and then afterwards during World War II by the Navy as an adjunct landing track to the Naval Air Station Key West Trumbo Point Seaplane Base and the independent Naval Air Station for fixed-wing and lighter-than-air (i.e.,sausage) aircraft on Boca Chica Key. In 1945, after the conflict, command of the landing track was returned to the town, and the civilian installation was finally named the Key West Municipal Airport. In January 1953, the town gave Monroe County clear statute title to Meacham Field so the county is able to acquire CAA allows. It was at this clip that the name modified to the Key West International Airport.
