Atatürk International Airport (once Yeşilköy International Airport) (IATA: IST, ICAO: LTBA) (Turkish: Atatürk Uluslararası Havalimanı) is the leading international airport in Istanbul, Turkey. Located in Yeşilköy, on the European side of the town, it is 15 kilometre (nine mi) southwestward of the town center. The airport is named in honour of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the establisher and the 1st president of the Republic of Turkey. With judged rider traffic of 26 million for the yr 2008, it is projected to be amongst the top 40 airports in the  world in terms of aggregative rider traffic.

Terminals

There are 3 depots, 1 international (Terminal A), 1 domestic (Terminal B) and 1 freight depot (Terminal C). Inaugurated in 2001, the international depot is an efficient and modern depot. After the new depot opened, domestic voyages have been travel to the old international depot. Despite its 70's project, this new domestic depot is able to deal more riders than the more modern but little previous domestic depot.

The airport depots have been functioned by TAV (Tepe-Akfen-Ventures) since January 2000. TAV has put US$600 million since 1998. In 2005 TAV won the grant understanding to function Atatürk for 15.5 yr at a enter interrupting sum of money of $3 billion, which also corresponds the highest fig for such a privatisation labor in Turkey, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Commonwealth of Independent States and North Africa.

There is also a labor to spread out the international depot by pulverising the unuseful installation constructions on the east of the international depot. When the international depot is spread out, some of the jet plane fashions shall be go forth to the domestic help depot which are on the due west of the international depot, tied to domestic help depot. Also there is a architectural plan to construct another landing track parallel to landing track 06/24, so when the original landing track 06/24 is under fix, this landing track shall be able to manage the traffic without anybody job. But to work on this task, the armed forces district is a fact of talk between the dominances as the infinite for new landing track belongs to armed forces. Also there are architectural plans to spread out the length of the landing track 06/24 as good, by this style, landing track shall be able to deal bigger aircrafts as most air hose set about to wing to Istanbul with bigger aircrafts.

Traffic

Atatürk Airport still human faces capacity issues; it ranks someplace between 35th and 40th in the  world by both freight and rider traffic, deal over 730,000 metric ton of burden (load, cargo and get off) and over 25 million riders in the yr 2007. The aggregative figure of riders has duplicate in the past 5 yr, and domestic traffic has about quadrupled (see statistics subdivision beneath). Its valued capacity of 14 million international riders per yr and 10 million domestic riders per yr was just sufficient for the claim in 2007. The Istanbul greater metropolitan area  is anticipated to have a claim of 25 million international riders and 25 million domestic riders each year by the yr 2015. However, unveiling of high velocity railroad train between Ankara and Istanbul in 2010, and pass completion of the building of the intercity main road relating Istanbul to other towns (to Bursa, İzmir, Antalya and the Black Sea Speedway) may assist diminish this claim.

Atatürk percentages traffic with Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, which is on the Anatolian (Asian) side of Istanbul, which had one-year rider traffic of merely 3.7 million in 2007. The 2 airports both furnish domestic and international service to the Istanbul area .
