Hyderabad International Airport (IATA: HYD, ICAO: VOHS) (Telugu: హైదరాబాదు అంతర్జాతీయ విమానాశ్రయము ), (Urdu: راجيف غاندي مطار دولي ) also known as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, is a new airport near Shamshabad, approximately 22 kilometre (14 mi) from the town of Hyderabad, in India. It is named after former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. The airport replaced the former international airport of the town,Begumpet Airport. Commercial voyage functioning commenced at twelve:01 am on 23 March 2008. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the 2nd public-private partnership embark in the Indian airports, the 1st being the Cochin International Airport. It also has 1 of the longest landing track in the  world. It is a hub for Jet Lite, SpiceJet and IndiGo Airlines. It also assists as a focal point town for Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines.

Second stage

In Phase 2, Terminal one shall be expanded to an area  of 250,000 mtwo (2,700,000 sq foot) to supply to the turning claim. Post enlargement, the depot construction will have 54 stands for aircraft parkland. The low cost depot will also be expanded to its full capacity of 1.5 m riders per annum. A 2nd landing track shall be necessitated before the starting time of building for Terminal 2. Connections to airport

The major advised access points to the new airport include:

  • Four-lane National Highway seven with service lanes (on its due west)
  • Four-lane Srisailam Highway (on its east)
  • Eight-lane 24.38 kilometre (15.15 mi) access commanded Outer Ring Road (ORR)
  • Widening of 52 kilometre (32 mi) Inner Ring Road with many overpasses with 8 lanes.
  • Four-lane 11.6 kilometre (7.2 mi) long P. V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway.
  • Multiple traffic direction go-ahead to decongest town routes
  • Alternate four-lane route P-7 from Mailardevpally to Mamidipally via Jalapally to decongest Srisailam Highway
  • Extension of Multi-Modal Transportation System (MMTS) up to Umdanagar(Shamshabad).
