Humberside Airport (IATA: HUY, ICAO: EGNJ) is located at Kirmington in the Borough of North Lincolnshire, England, 10 NM (19 kilometre; 12 mi) due west of Grimsby and around 15 mi (24 kilometre) from both Kingston upon Hull and Scunthorpe, on the A18. It is a little international airport, owned by the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the biggest UK-owned airport group, getting Humberside Airport in 1999. History
The airport was antecedently a Royal Air Force ground, RAF Kirmington, opened in 1941 during World War II, from which No. 166 Squadron RAF functioned the Avro Lancaster. The location was abandoned after the conflict in 1945, and lay unused until 1974 when the local council re-opened the location as Kirmington Airport. When the local area was renamed Humberside coming after local authority re-organisation in England, the name was modified to Humberside Airport. The briny 03/21 landing track was continued to its current length in 1992, letting functioning of much bigger aircraft.
