It is the biggest airport in Inner Mongolia and lies 14.3km (8.9 land mile) east of business district Hohhot. Its name Baita average White Pagoda infers from Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda, 1 of the historical attractive forces in Hohhot which lies 5.6km (3.5 land mile) south east of the airport.
History and enlargement
Hohhot Baita airport was opened on October 1, 1958. In the mid 1980s and 1990's, it underwent 2 enlargements and in June 2007 a new depot was build. The new depot covers an area of 54499m² with 11 parkland jetways and is capable of care 3 million riders each yr. Furthermore, its landing track has also been continued and its breadth increased so that it is able to adapt the start out and districting of jumbo jets such as the Airbus A380. It assists as 1 of the recreation airports for air traffic during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Presently Hohhot airport is linked to 28 domestic towns by 26 air paths, it assists international scheduled voyages to Ulan Bator as good as charter voyages to Hong Kong, Russia and Thailand.
