Hannover Airport
Airport Directory » Germany » Hanover » Hannover AirportHannover Airport (IATA: HAJ, ICAO: EDDV), also named Langenhagen Airport with mention to the nearby city of Langenhagen, is located 11km northward of the center of Hanover, the capital of the German province of Lower Saxony. It is the ninth biggest airport in Germany.
History
Hannover Airport was opened in 1952 replacing an old field within the town boundaries of Hannover. In 1973 two modern depots were opened, which went famous because of their compact project. They got the pilot for the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow. These depots A and B, with stands for 12 aircraft in aggregative, are still in service currently. In 1998 the bigger depot C was opened to deal more riders, adding eight more entrances. Up to 33 aircraft is able to be assisted at a time, of which 20 is able to have aircraft stand up fit out with a Jetway. All 3 depots are capable of taking a Boeing 747. Terminal D is a reconstructed depot which is solely used by the Royal Air Force to provide British military personnel in the northward of Germany.
In 2000 an S-Bahn connexion was constituted between the airport and Hamelin via Hannover Central Station. Trains go forth every 30 min. for a 17 min journey. This replaced the airport's shuttle bus company which ran every 20 min., more often than the S-Bahn, but took longer to make the airport and train station. The service was continued to run into Paderborn in 2003.
From 1957 to 1990 the airport hosted the Internationale Luft- und Raumfahrtausstellung, Germany's biggest airshow. After a fatal accident in 1988, when a Chinook Helicopter hit a Jetway with its rotor coil, and the German Reunification 2 yr after, the Airshow travel to Berlin in 1992.
