Gothenburg City Airport or Göteborg City Airport (IATA: GSE, ICAO: ESGP), once (and still informally) known as Säve Flygplats, is Gothenburg's 2nd international airport turn up 14 klicks north west from the center of Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg ) on the island of Hisingen, Bohuslän, Sweden. It is turn up within the boundary lines of Gothenburg Municipality, therefore its name. Prior to the reaching of Ryanair in 2001, the airport had 9000 riders per yr. 844,000 winged from City Airport in 2008. In addition to commercial air hose, the airport is also functioned by a figure of deliver services, including the Swedish Coast Guard.

Although it's mainly a low-cost airline airport, it is really turn up closer to Gothenburg town center than the independent airport (Göteborg-Landvetter Airport with 4.36 million riders in 2007). It is 1 of the few town airports Ryanair functions to. Due to its place many business jet plane prefer winging to City Airport instead than Landvetter. Gothenburg City Airport is able to deal aeroplanes up to the size of it of a Boeing 767, an Airbus A320 or similar jet plane. The airport also adapts General Aviation acitivities, including two winging baseball clubs, Aeroklubben i Göteborg, 1 of Europe's oldest winging baseball clubs, and Chalmers flygklubb.

The rider depot is spartan with atomic number 13 roofing with exposed trusses. There are a limited figure of merchandisers at the airport.

Transport

There are bus company that fit every Ryanair, Air Berlin and Wizz Air going and reaching, ending at the passenger vehicle and railroad train depot in 30 min. (cost 60 SEK; approximately the same clip but a small lower cost compared to the Landvetter Airport).

Catching a cab to the town center costs 330 SEK.

Car renting services are Avis, Budget, Hertz and Europcar. Cars are available from 700 SEK a solar day.

History

In 1940, a armed forces airbase named Säve was made here. The airbase was shut down in 1969. In 1977 the old airport Torslanda was shut down, and scheduled voyages travel to Landvetter, and civil aviation was travel to Säve. In 1984, the landing track was better and continued to let bigger business organisation jet plane etc. In 2001, the airport was renamed City Airport, and Ryanair set about functioning scheduled voyages to London.

Competition

DFDS Seaways adverted competition from low-cost air services, particularly Ryanair (which currently wings to Glasgow Prestwick and London Stansted from Gothenburg City Airport), as being a ground for its trashing the Newcastle-Gothenburg ferry service in October 2006. It was the only give rider ferry service between Sweden and the United Kingdom, and had been running since the 19th century (under various operators).
