Madeira Airport (IATA: FNC, ICAO: LPMA), also known as Funchal Airport and Santa Catarina Airport, is an international airport turn up near Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. The airport commands national and international air traffic of the island of Madeira.

The airport was opened on July 18th, 1964 with 2 1,600m landing track.

The airport was one time infamous for its short landing track which, border by high mountains and the ocean, survived a tricky districting for even the most see of airplane pilots. The original landing track was only 1600 m in length, but was continued by 200 metres eight yr after the TAP Air Portugal Flight 425 incident of 1977 and later reconstructed in 2000, nearly bivalent the size of it of the landing track, construction it out over the ocean. Instead of using landfill, the extension was built on a series of 180 columns, each being approximately 70m tall. This airport is also see the Kai Tak of Europe because of its singular form draw close to landing track 05.

For the expansion of the new landing track the Funchal Airport has won the Outstanding Structures Award, given by International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). The Outstanding Structures Award is see to be the "Oscar" for technologist building in Portugal.
