During World War II, the airport was retraced to be a armed forces airport. The airport landing track was remade by the Department of Civil Aviation in 1969, and a depot was opened in 1970. The Dubbo City Countil accepted ownership of the airport on July 1, 1970. The airport has been used for scheduled, charter, and cargo services since then.
