Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (IATA: CUZ, ICAO: SPZO) is turn up in the town of Cusco, a town in southeastern Peru. Cusco, a principal tourist attractive force in Latin America, has various domestic voyages as good as some international voyages. Its landing track are all paved. Currently, it functions at a limited capacity due to its precarious place near the town's heart.

Name

It was named in honour of the Peruvian airplane pilot Alejandro Velasco Astete who was the 1st airplane pilot to cover the Andes in 1925. This 1st voyage was from Lima direct to Cusco. Later that yr, in September, while attempting to avoid crashing into lookers at an airshow in the town of Puno he crashed and was assassination. In acknowledgement of his open up accomplishments in Peruvian air power history, the airport was named in his honour.

History

Previously, the airport was assisted by American Airlines which offered direct voyages from the United States. However, these voyages have since stopped. THe voyages to and from Miami is able to restart pending U.S approving.

There have been a figure of talks of building of a new airport in the suburban area of Chinchero, but this has made argument as this area  is place to the Pampas of Chinchero, an bionomical memorial.

In the past the airport had voyages from Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano from Bolivia, but with the failure of that airline voyages to Bolivia have been replaced by Aerosur. Cusco also once had voyages from the town of Arica in Chile.

Design

The airport has a figure of trade good which attend to the large number of holidaymakers which see the town of Cusco. A figure of yr ago, it was the 1st Peruvian airport to do use of jetways.
