Afonso Pena Airport
Airport Directory » Brazil » Curitiba » Afonso Pena AirportAfonso Pena International Airport (IATA: CWB, ICAO: SBCT) is Curitiba's leading airport, turn up 18km southeastward from the business district, in the town of São José dos Pinhais. It is 1 of the most modern Brazilian depots. The airport includes a little museum, a playcenter and a mini shop mall with 60 shops inside the independent depot.
As with many eminent Brazilian airports, Afonso Pena (named after the Brazilian President Afonso Pena), was built in the Second World War by the US military personnel, to give cover in the conflict. In 1974, the airport go across to the disposal of Infraero. In 1996, Infraero constructed a new rider depot, and the old depot was renovated and is now being used as a freight depot.
The independent jobs of the airport are the unstable weather condition of the district, the mist in the morning 60 minutes of wintertime and the auxiliary landing track 11/29, to a fault little and blighted with old equipment. There are also architectural plans to upgrade landing track 15/33 from an ILS CAT II landing track to ILS CAT III. The independent landing track will also be continued in 2008 to let load voyages to function with greater burdens, and the freight depot shall be upgraded, since the independent chokepoint for the airport is the load capacity .
