Coimbatore International Airport (IATA: CJB, ICAO: VOCB) is an international airport turn up in Peelamedu, assisting Coimbatore. It was antecedently known as Peelamedu Aerodrome or Coimbatore Civil Aerodrome. It is approximately 13 Kms from the town center.
History
Coimbatore airport 1st set about functioning in the 1940s as a polite airport, with Indian Airlines functioning Fokker F27, Douglas DC-3 and Hawker Siddeley's Avro 748. In its early solar days, services were principally to Chennai and Mumbai. Later services to Cochin and Bengaluru were added. In the early 1980s, the airport was shut down for landing track enlargement, to adapt modern jet plane like the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320. Temporarily, air hose were using the nearby Sulur Airbase. In 1987, after pass completion of the landing track enlargement and a new depot, the airport restarted services. In 1995, Indian Airlines start out international services to Sharjah, and in 2007 functioning were get to the international destinations of Colombo and Singapore.
