Cloncurry AirportLocation of Cloncurry Airport Queensland
Cloncurry Airport (IATA: CNJ, ICAO: YCCY) is an airport in Cloncurry, Queensland, Australia.
History
Cloncurry Airport has been the focal point for many of Australia’s greatest inventions. Cloncurry was regarded with the beginnings of QANTAS, and the original QANTAS Hanger is still in use at the airport, where “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service” is still exposed above the hanger door.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service was constituted there in 1928, currently recognized the world over. The airport was also on road for early aeroplanes come up from abroad and a halt location for contestants in the great air speeds of 1919 and 1934.
World War II
Due to the strategical importance of Cloncurry airport on the briny Darwin–Sydney air path, the Royal Australian Air Force spread out the airport during World War II. Intended to be a major airbase should the Imperial Japanese have busy New Guinea and Papua.
During the Second World World War II, Cloncurry Airport was the location of a major United States Army Air Force air ground in 1942. As the conflict locomoted northward, the USAAF units turn up northward to forward ground.
