Cairns Airport (IATA: CNS, ICAO: YBCS) is an Australian domestic and international airport in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Formerly functioned by the Cairns Port Authority, the airport was sold by the Queensland Government in December 2008 to a private syndicate. It is the 6th busiest airport in Australia. The airport is turn up 7 klicks (4 land mile) northward of the Cairns central downtown in the suburban area of Aeroglen. The airport lies between Mount Whitfield to the due west and Trinity Bay to the east.

The airport assists international, domestic and civil aviation voyages including a figure of eggbeater operators. Flights are functioned to major Australian towns and holidaymaker destinations, regional communities in Far North Queensland, and a figure of international destinations in the Asia-Pacific district with connexions to the balance of the  world. The airport characteristic the independent ground for Australian Airlines prior to its stopping of functioning in June 2006 (the airport rests a leading port for parent corporation Qantas). It is also a ground for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and the hunt and deliver eggbeaters of the State Emergency Service.

Facilities

Both Virgin Blue and Jetstar apply the Northern (former Ansett) finish of the Domestic depot. The whole depot is undergoing a $200 million overhaul. Work commenced in August 2007 and is anticipated to be complete by late 2010. Current work is focused on overhaul of the departure lounge. Check-in installations will all be spread out into a common-user installation for all air hose, and the construction enlarged. Five new airbridges will replace the being 3 old airbridges at Gate 18, 19 and 20.

The International Terminal now has 5 airbridges.

The airport’s briny north-south landing track is 3,196 m (10,486 foot) long. A little 925 m (3,035 foot) landing track, used for civil aviation, lies to the east; its final draw close cuts across the independent landing track.
