History

Designing and building (1939-1944)

In 1938 the thought of construction a new airport in Budapest was born. The area  in the bound of 3 colonies, Pestszentlőrinc-Rákoshegy-Vecsés, was portioned as the area  of the new airport. The airport was thought as jointly for civil-military-sporting intentions. Civil installations were to be build up in the north-western and armed forces 1 in the south-western subdivision. Just as for each construction, a public sensible was asked for for the projecting and building of the traffic construction.

In December 1939, upon declaration of the effects of the sensible asked for in September that yr, the projects of Károly Dávid Jr. (1903-1973) were selected. The interior designer, who was 1 of the masterminds of modern Hungarian architectural art, woolgathered of a construction which resembled an aircraft from the top-side position. The work set about in 1942. To draw close the airport from the town, a 16 kilometre high-speed route was build between 1940 and 1943, which, after improvements, stays in use currently.

The armed forces constructions were build parallel to the polite building from 1940 but, due to the conflict state of affairs, faster. Aviation get down at at the airport in 1943. In wartime, the polite building slow down and then halt at the start of 1944. Towards the finish of World War II, many of the airport constructions were damaged.
