RAF Brize Norton (IATA: BZZ, ICAO: EGVN) in Oxfordshire, approximately 50 land mile due west of London, England, United Kingdom, is the biggest airbase of the Royal Air Force.

This RAF station is place to Air Transport, Air-to-Air refuelling and Military Parachuting. The ground is place to the RAF's heavy transport aircraft, the C-17 Globemaster, and to its Tristar and Vickers VC-10 tank ship. It is close to the Oxfordshire colonies of Brize Norton,Carterton and Witney approximately five land mile forth.

History

RAF Brize Norton was opened in 1937 as a preparation ground. By the 1950s Cold War stress was step up and the United States imagined sending atomic bombers in the United Kingdom as a impediment to Soviet aggression.

By 1950 the USAF Strategic Air Command (SAC) was ground at RAF Lakenheath, RAF Marham, and RAF Sculthorpe.
