Milan Rastislav Štefánik Airport (Slovak: Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika) (IATA: BTS, ICAO: LZIB), also named - particularly in English - Bratislava Airport (Slovak: Letisko Bratislava) or Bratislava-Ivanka, in Bratislava is the independent international airport of Slovakia.

It is named after full general Milan Rastislav Štefánik (since 1993), whose aircraft crashed near Bratislava in 1919. The airport is run by the Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika – Airport Bratislava, a.s. (BTS), a public limited corporation. Till May 2004, the airport was run by the state-run entity Slovenská správa letísk (Slovak Airport Administration). In 2008, the airport assisted 2,218,545 riders, corresponding a 9.6% increase compared to 2007 and more than a 700% increase compared to 2001.

Location

It is turn up 9 kilometre (5.59 mi) to the north east from the town centre, covers an area  of 4.77 km² (1.84 mi²) and is known for its inordinately good climatical statuses.

Characteristics

The 1st regular voyage between Prague and Bratislava of the Czechoslovak Airlines was done in 1923, to the Vajnory airport (currently closed). Preparatory works for the current airport set about in 1947 and building set about in 1948, with 2 landing track build (04/22, 1900 m and 13/31, 1500 m) and the airport was opened in 1951.

Today, it assists both scheduled and unscheduled, domestic and international voyages. Ground transportation system

Bratislava Airport is able to be hit from the town center, which is by route 9 kilometer off, or from D1 state highway. Public transit line No. 61 links the airport to the town center and the independent railroad terminal during the solar day. Bus No. 96 functions from Petržalka.
