Billings Logan International Airport (Class C Airspace)(IATA: BIL, ICAO: KBIL) is a commercial airport in the town of Billings, Montana United States. The airport assists inhabitants of the greater Billings Metro area  as good as inhabitants throughout South Central Montana, eastern Montana and northern Wyoming. The airport is turn up 2 land mile (3.2 kilometre) northward of business district Billings.

No regularly-scheduled, non-stop voyages from Billings move farther east than Chicago, farther southward than Phoenix, or farther due west than Seattle. The airport offers non-stop voyages to major airline hubs such as Denver International Airport (United Airlines and Frontier Airlines), Chicago O'Hare International Airport (United Airlines), Salt Lake City International Airport (Delta Connection), Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (Northwest Airlines), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Horizon Air).

History

The 1st entered voyage in Billings was in 1912 by a local dental practitioner named Dr. Frank Bell. The voyage was winged in his home-made plane Curtiss 0-X-5.

The "First" voyage was do on Memorial Day 1913, with much packaging, Dr. Bell start from Billings winging to Park City and dorsum, a round trip distance of 40 land mile (64 kilometre). This historic voyage was captured by a local creative person named J.K. Ralston in his painting entitled "First Flight," which is exhibited in the hall of the Billings Logan International Airport.

By 1927, the individuals of Billings realised that the community was in demand of an airport. The City of Billings okayed $5,000 and 400 acres (162 ha) on top of the Rims to build a landing track. The 1,820-foot (550 m) landing track and little administrative construction was build by using a horse-drawn equipment. The landing track and construction was finished in 1928. The Billings Municipal Airport was opened on May 29, 1928.

After the airport was constituted, Northwest Airlines was the 1st major air hose to get down air services to Billings in 1933.

Major improvements over the yr include the 1st landing track visible radiation set up in 1935 to the new 120-foot (37 m) air traffic control tower finished in 2005. Major depot enlargements were do in 1958, 1972 and 1992. In early 2006, the airport added electronic supervises that supply real-time updates on voyage arrivals and going.

The airport modified from the Billings Municipal Airport to Billings Logan Field in 1957, after Dick Logan, the airport director, expired. Then in 1971 the airport was renamed Billings Logan International Airport.

The airport is named "International" because it furnished voyages to Canada.

Great Lakes Airlines has been given USDOT blessing to take over Essential Air Service (EAS) service between Billings Logan International and the 7 eastern Montana EAS communities including Glendive, Glasgow, Havre, Lewistown, Miles City, Sidney, and Wolf Point.
