Benina Airport

It is turn up in the city of Benina, 19 kilometre east of Benghazi, from which it takes its name. The airport is functioned by the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Bureau of Libya and is the 2nd biggest in the land after Tripoli International Airport. Benina International is also the secondary hub of both Buraq Air and flag bearer, Libyan Airlines.
History
During World War II, the airport was used by the United States Army Air Force Air Transport Command. It operated as a way station en-route to Payne Field near Cairo or to Mellaha Field near Tripoli on the North African Cairo-Dakar transport path for load, transiting aircraft and force.
Future Plans
A new depot with a capacity of 5 million riders shall be germinated northward of the being landing track at Benina International under a 720 million LYD (415 million Euros) first-stage contract presented to Canada's SNC-Lavalin. The final cost is judged at 1.1 billion LYD (630 million Euros). As with Tripoli International Airport, the new depot was projected by Aéroports de Paris Engineering. Preliminary work and location readying has set about, but it rests ill-defined when the depot shall be open for functioning.
