Barra Airport (IATA: BRR, ICAO: EGPR) (also known as Barra Eoligarry Airport) is a STOLport located in the broad shallow embayment of Traigh Mhòr at the northward tip of the island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The airport is unusual - 1 of only 2 in the world where scheduled voyages use the beach as the landing track (The other being on Fraser Island, Australia). The airport is functioned by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited, which owns most of the regional airports in mainland Scotland and the outlying islands.
The beach is get down with 3 landing track, marked by wooden poles at their finishes. This lets the Twin Otters that assist the airport to nearly e'er district into the air current. At high water these landing track are under the sea - voyage clips change with the tide. Emergency voyages once in a while function at nighttime from the airport, with vehicle visible radiation pointing the center line of the landing track and reflective strips positioned on to the beach.
The beach is also popular with visitants and cockle pickers, who are inquired to detect the wind sock to see if the airport is in functioning.
Barra Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P792) that lets voyages for the public transport of riders or for winging direction as pass by the licensee (Highlands & Islands Airports Limited). The airport is not licenced for nighttime use.
