Brunei International Airport (Malay: Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei; (Jawi): لاڤڠن تربڠ انتارابڠسا بروني ) (IATA: BWN, ICAO: WBSB) is the primary airport in the land of Brunei. The Royal Brunei Air Force is also found at the Rimba Air Base which is turn up in the Brunei International Airport.

History

Commercial air transport in Brunei set about in 1953, with the organization of air service connects linking Bandar Seri Begawan with Anduki in the Belait District. Initial voyages to Malaysia were do to adapt traveler from Labuan in Sabah and Lutong in Sarawak. Airport services were functioned from the Berakas area  at an old landing track location constructed by the Japanese during World War II. It was known then as the Brunei Airport.

The growing in popularity of air move in the '70s ensued in a eminent increased in the general aviation motility. Suddenly, the old airport was flood with action, functioning beyond its capacity. This moved the authority to reconnoitre for a new location to construct a modern airport.

A new airport was build in Mukim Berakas in the Brunei-Muara District, because it was easy accessible from all area  of the commonwealth. The airport got operational in 1974 and opened Brunei to the  world.

The airport's present capacity is 2 million riders and 50,000 short ton of freight per yr. In 2005, Brunei International dealt 1.3 million riders.
