Sármellék International Airport (Hungarian: Sármellék Nemzetközi Repülőtér) (IATA: SOB, ICAO: LHSM), also known as FlyBalaton Airport, is an international airport in Hungary turn up due west of Lake Balaton near the small town of Sármellék, Zala county and Keszthely (46°41′11″N 17°9′33″E / 46.68639°N 17.15917°E / 46.68639; 17.15917). Its importance is due to the law of proximity of Lake Balaton, Hungary's most eminent resort and the caloric health club of Hévíz and Zalakaros.
About the airport
A armed forces airport was already turn up here in the 1940s. It was paved in the 1950s and operated as a Hungarian armed forces airport until 1960, and as a Soviet armed forces airport between 1960 and the Autumn of 1990. The current landing track were build in 1982.
The airport is owned by the local authorities of Sármellék and Zalavár since August 2002, functioned by an Irish-Hungarian investing group, Cape Clear Aviation Ltd., since 2004.
Flights
It has functioned as a public airport since 1991 and got the 2nd international airport of the land on May 15, 2002 (after Budapest Ferihegy International Airport). It often functions charter voyages to Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig and Düsseldorf in Germany, Billund and Copenhagen in Denmark, Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Moscow in Russia.
