Meadows Field (IATA: BFL, ICAO: KBFL, FAA LID: BFL) is the primary airport of Bakersfield, California and is owned by Kern County. Meadows Field is also named Kern County Airport #1. The airport covers 1,357 acres (549 ha) and has 2 landing track, the longer which is the third longest private landing track in California behind LAX and SFO.
History
The 1st airport in 1925 "Kern County Airport No. one" was germinated under protections of the Kern County Chamber of Commerce near Highway 99, approximately a land mile due west of the present location of Meadows Field.
By Board Minute Order of August 6, 1957 the name of Kern County Airport No. one was modified to Meadows Field in memory of Cecil Meadows, a World War II airplane pilot who visioned the airport.
In 1957, A depot construction was opened. Throughout the yr, the depot would have air hose come up and travel. In February 2006, The depot was replaced by the "William M. Thomas" Terminal. The airport includes jet bridge, an indoor luggage carrousel, eating house, etc. The former depot was transformed into an international depot with a new build usages installation adjacent to it.
The economic crisis of 2008 ensued in fewer commercial voyages to and from Meadows Field. Delta Connection finished service to Salt Lake City, ExpressJet Airlines finished service to Sacramento and San Diego, and Mexicana Airlines finished service to Guadalajara.
