Alderney Airport (IATA: ACI, ICAO: EGJA) is the only airport on the island of Alderney. Built in 1938, Alderney Airport was the 1st airport in the Channel Islands. Located 1 NM (1.9 kilometre; 1.2 mi) southwestward of St Anne, it is the closest Channel Island airport to the South seashore of England and the seashore of France and its installations include a depot, the Airport Fire Station and low cost, duty free and tax-free Avgas refuelling. In 2008 the airport dealt 77,104 riders and 8,723 aggregative motilities.

Runways

Alderney is unique among Channel Islands airports, in having 3 operational landing track. The independent landing track, 08/26 is 880 m (2,887 foot) long and is principally asphalt. The 2 secondary landing track are both grass. 14/32 being 732 m (2,402 foot) long, with 03/21 having a length of 497 m (1,631 foot). The independent landing track is fit out with low intensity level visible radiation, with portable visible lighting being available on landing track 14/32. The draw close and landing track visible lights were replaced in 2006 by Ian .C. Tugby (States of Alderney fellow member), a local construction contracter.

Operations

Alderney is not a 24-hour airport; during Winter, it is open Monday-Saturday from 0740-1830 and on Sunday from 0855-1830. During Summer, it is open Monday-Thursday 0640-1730 and Fri-Sun 0640-1830. The airport also has its own Non-directional beacon fire, with landing track 08 and 26 using this for instrument draw close during Instrument meteorological statuses. The airport also has no parkland stand up due to no take for them due to the size of the Trislanders that function there; aircraft just parkland on the independent macadamise apron where there is infinite (there normally is except for in Alderney Week in August when grass parkland is fittingly dry for employment).

Development

A Dutch corporation who have purchased Fort Tourgis, a nearby disused garrison to turn it into a hotel, are advising to do the airport constructions larger and they desire to continue landing track: (the States of Alderney have inquired them to pass £400,000 on the airport).
