Airport Directory » Ghana » Accra » Kotoka AirportKotoka International Airport (IATA: ACC, ICAO: DGAA) in Accra, Ghana is the land's most eminent international air installation and has the capability for big aircraft such as the Airbus A380. The airport is functioned by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) under the supervision of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The airport is the independent ground for Ghana International Airlines, Antrak Air and CTK - CiTylinK. It also houses a sizeable installation for the Ghana Air Force.
In 1967 the airport was named after Col. Emmanuel Kotoka, who was hit near the airport during the "Guitar Boy" assayed putsch.
The new going and reaching depots at KIA opened in 2004 but the planned covered aisles were not finished. Instead, shuttle bus are supplied to travel riders from the entrances to the aircraft.
In 2006, the airport assisted 1,083,431 riders.
In February 2008, KIA assisted as the hub for deployed U.S. armed forces force from the 621st Contingency Response Wing, McGuire AFB, New Jersey, amongst other contingents, during President Bush's tour to several African nations.
